This book came to me at a time when I was facing uncertainty in many life aspects. Reading about the strategies for dealing with uncertainty and learning about the stories of people who succeeded in life by dealing with uncertainty in untraditional ways was very enlightening. The book draws strong comparisons between how we grew up believing we can handle and manage uncertainty, and what we are sometimes forced to do in real life to overcome unexpected high impact uncertainties. These comparisons together with real life experiences allow us to vividly see how our old school tactics for keeping our lives under control are obsolete, and that now is the time to see the reality of our world as it really is and to be able to deal with it accordingly.
Its a great book with a smooth flow that makes it an easy read. I highly recommend it.
I finished the book in 2 days, it's written in a simple language and is full of interesting ideas and concepts.
I have been researching ways to figure how successful Organizations manage business uncertainty and constant change and how its leadership push decisions and responsibilities into every member of the team. I found some good examples in chapter 3 of this book describing different leadership approaches within some leading organizations around the World.
As a business leader, I found the concept of “Domesticating Risk.” is interesting and practical as managing risk is not recklessness but more ability to convert dangerous situations into useful ones for the business and the team and that was thoroughly covered in the book.
This book is talking in an original and straightforward language about our today's number one life challenge which is our inability to manage the “unknowns” in our life. The book didn't focus on the theories of "uncertainty" as much as he designed practical life to overcoming it. Much of the book revolves around trying to understand the negative side of being uncertain and feeling insecure but at the same time developing the needed enablers that could make you victorious in what is “seems to be” a never ending battle with uncertainty.
Both the business and humanitarian parts of this book were inspiring.
