Imagine having the history of The Beatles recording career in the palm of your hand! Dinosaur Album Guides take you through the story of the creation of each Beatles album one by one. Starting with ‘Please, Please Me; The Album Guide’, Dinosaur Album Guides deliver the details you want to know in a style which is objective, interactive, engaging, educational and above all, fun.
With its lyrical themes of teen angst, insecurity, euphoric joy, love and depression, combined with the high octane rock ‘n’ roll of its loud guitars and trashy open high-hats, the release of ‘Please Please Me’ in March 1963 was a seminal moment in the history of British rock music. Its success at home paved the way for the Beatles’ relentless evolution throughout 1963, culminating in their international explosion in 1964. English artists were virtually unknown in the US prior to the British invasion, spearheaded by the Beatles in 1964. The musical and cultural explosion which followed their breakthrough established British pop/rock, particularly alternative, as the dominating force in international music over the following 30-40 years. And it all began with ‘Please Please Me’.
The guides focus on key areas of each album track and single release, treating every song and album on its own merits. Divided into convenient user-friendly sections for each song Production Credits; Background; Recording; Analysis; Impact; Discography
Each guide traces the conceptual triggers behind the songs; the musical and lyrical inspiration; the recording logistics; instrumentation; engineering and production details; guest musicians; number of takes and much, much more. Our guides also feature musical analysis of the songs and performances, questioning and debating myths and legends. In addition the guides provide a narrative on the professional and personal lives and relationships of the group and their peers at the time of writing/recording, which includes anecdotal supplements supported by quotations from the group themselves as well as EMI staff, peers, and musicians. Finally, the guides set out to associate Beatles records with the instruments and effects used to create the particular sounds which made these recordings so unique.
The Beatles Please Please Me The Album Guide eBook Joe Rodgers
As the first album The Beatles ever released, Please Please Me is both a milestone moment in the Fabs recording career and also a greatly underrated piece of music. This book goes some way to rectifying this sometimes overlooked classic album, by offering a detailed, song by song breakdown, from the raucous rockers of I Saw Her Standing There and Twist and Shout, to more subtle fare like There's A Place and A Taste Of Honey. Unlike the mammoth, magisterial Revolution In The Head by Ian McDonald, which provided the socio-cultural background to every song recorded by the Beatles, Please Please Me focuses firmly on the music, covering as much as possible as is known about the composition and recording of each track on the album. It's an approach this brings forth some fascinating information, such as the scatological origins of the Beatles first big hit, Please Please Me and the stories behind some of the songs covered by the band. Sticking to the music rather than the politics and personalities of the band also reveals the important and creative contributions of each member, showing how much George and Ringo added to the development and sound of each tune, a point often forgotten when discussing the songwriting genius of Lennon and McCartney. There are a few grammatical and punctuation errors throughout, and some songs receive perfunctory analysis, compared to the fascinating discussion of stand out tracks like Love Me Do. It would have nice too to see more on cover versions of the Beatles originals, as started in the first chapter on I Saw Her Standing There, but not carried on to the rest of the book and songs. A highly pleasing read nonetheless and hopefully the start of a series covering all of the Beatles albums.Product details

The Beatles Please Please Me The Album Guide eBook Joe Rodgers Reviews
The presentation and attention to detail is astounding! Everything is covered such as the technical recording aspects (as well as the evolution of songs between takes and such, my favorite part), the origins of songs, music theory, colorful well-written descriptions of how songs were performed, as well as intriguing quotes from The Beatles themselves that I've never come across.
Definitely enjoy this! Looking forward to more!
Smoothly written account of why this album was so important to popular culture and how it was put together so quickly yet so nearly perfectly.
I really enjoyed this book. It is well written. I hope they do other Beatles albums as well.
If you've recently got into the Beatles, this is a great guide to their albums. Not as detailed as the Mark Lewisohn books, but a worthwhile addition / beginning to any Beatles fan's library
Full of facts, sometimes too many, covering each song on the album. Die hards will find this enjoyable.
This book's detailed analysis of each song on "Please Please Me" makes the entire album and its significance much more clear. We Americans tend to dismiss this record in favor of "With The Beatles" ("Meet The Beatles"). Now there is a study which returns "Please Please Me" to its proper place in the band's canon.
Please, Please Me is an album which was recorded in one very long day. This gives it a unique perspective for a writer, because everything is there. PPM is the first Beatles album, and this little Guide gives both a global perspective, as well as a very detailed musical discussion.
Each song on the album gets its own showcase who wrote, who sang, who played. This information is not overly technical as some more 'scholarly' books have been, but brings out the nascent genius, the exuberance, and the unique combination that became The Beatles.
Might be a good read for some young musicians who think it's no big deal. Please Please Me was and it remains so.
